“Archetypes Unravelled” Sneak Peek: The Rebel
The Rebel defies rules and expectations, shaking the foundations around them. But rebellion isn’t only about anger or defiance—it’s also about vulnerability, longing, and the unspoken wounds that fuel the fight. In our guided writing session on The Rebel, we’ll delve beneath the surface to explore these complexities: their hidden hopes, fears, and the costs of standing apart.
You’ll learn to craft characters (both fictional and real) who aren’t just rebels for rebellion’s sake, but who embody tension, depth, and radical possibility.
Here’s a short sample of an audio prompt we’ll use in the guided series:
Alternative text version: Find a quiet space and place your hands gently on your chest and belly. Take a few deep breaths and feel the subtle movements beneath your palms — the rise and fall, the pulse of life. Now, bring to mind a time when you felt the fierce urge to resist or break free — whether from expectation, fear, or limitation. Let your body remember the physical sensations tied to that moment: the quickened heartbeat, the tightening or loosening in your chest, the energy coiling or flowing through you. Write from this embodied memory, tracing not just the outward act of rebellion but the inner landscape of emotions, contradictions, and desires that sparked it. How might these layered feelings shape a character who rebels not only against the world but also within themselves? (Set a timer and write for at least 3 minutes; keep going if you feel energized after that time.)
Other Archetypes We’ll Explore with Nuance This Summer
Many memoirists and fiction writers lean on the Explorer archetype—the one who embarks on literal or metaphorical journeys that spark change. But in Archetypes Unravelled, we’ll go deeper: questioning who gets to roam freely and what it truly means to seek.
The Caregiver often appears as the one who builds trust and safety through service. Yet we’ll challenge the idea of self-sacrifice and explore how caregiving shapes power, boundaries, and identity in real life.
And the Magician—associated with transformation and mystery—will be more than just magic tricks. We’ll uncover the grit, discomfort, and real work behind genuine change.
These are just a few of the archetypes we’ll unpack with writing prompts designed to stretch clichés and connect you with fresh, personal truths.
Let’s write together this Summer!
Warmly,
Rachel
