Summer reading can be such a balm: a chance to slow down, savour each word, and get lost in other worlds. That’s why I invite you to join me to make summer reading a joyful exploration of craft with Summer Reading Bingo!
🎯 Download Your Bingo Card Here
It’s free. It’s fun. And it’s designed to deepen your reading and your writing.
✨ How to Play
Mark off squares as you spot specific craft elements in your reading
Reflect in a journal (optional but oh-so-rewarding)
Complete a row, column, or diagonal by September 14, 2025, to enter to win a spot in a future course with me
You can play solo, with writer friends, or join our community conversations all summer long. (More on that below.)
🔍 What to Look For
Here are just a few things to notice (and mark off) on your bingo card:
A voice that feels unmistakably itself
Maybe it’s a narrator so distinct and authentic, that you’d recognize it anywhere. I’m rereading the Murderbot Diaries—a series I first discovered in a POV workshop I hosted with Naomi Williams. (Fun fact: it’s now a TV show, too!)A setting that feels alive
The kind of place where you can smell the sea or hear the buzz of drones overhead.Moments of silence or ellipsis
When the unsaid speaks volumes. A pause or blank space that holds emotional weight.A line so beautiful or precise, that it stops you mid-page
You underline it. You whisper it aloud. You carry it with you.
There’s a full guide to the bingo card with more ideas for what to notice and why it matters. This isn’t about racing through your list—it’s about reading deeply and savouring what you discover.
🖋️ Journal Spreads by Julia Garza
To spark your creativity, I invited the wonderful Julia Garza of The Workbooks to create custom journal spreads for our Summer Reading Bingo.

Aren’t they gorgeous? Let them inspire you—but don’t let them intimidate you! There’s no “right” way to reflect on your reading. Use words, sketches, colours, collages—whatever helps you slow down and savour.
💬 Let’s Read Together
If you’re part of my course community—whether you’re a current member, an alum, or one of the wonderful early-birds signed up for my Summer Courses—you’re invited to our #BookClub channel on Slack.
We’ll be chatting all summer about the books we’re reading, the craft moments we’re spotting, and the lines we can’t stop thinking about.
And, as you read, feel free to share your discoveries in the discussion thread on this post—I’d love to hear what you’re noticing!
BTW, this challenge isn’t about checking off squares or “winning” summer reading.
It’s about claiming space for yourself.
It’s about reading with curiosity and joy.
It’s about letting other writers’ brilliance feed your own.

Warmly,
Rachel
